Last Sunday I referred to this wonderful book by Diana Butler Bass called "Grounded." In this podcast episode, Rob Bell interviews her and she gives a wonderful summary of the book. It is a very thought provoking conversation.
This is a lecture that I use for a course I teach at NNU. I like it because Michael Frost does a nice job using some very vivid images to help us re-think what the church is supposed to be about.
If you are unfamiliar with Michael Frost, he is an Australian professor and missiologist. He has written several books that have become very popular among pastors and leaders who are trying to re-imagine church for the post-Christian era. My favorite book of his, and one that I use in a class I teach is - "The Shaping of Things to Come."
This was a message I preached at Real Life Church in January of 2014. It is about two ways of seeing church: Gathered Churches and Parish Churches.
I first heard this talk about 10 years ago when I was at a conference at Mosaic Church in L.A. I thought it was a good introduction to what it means to be a movement as opposed to an institution.
